Acrylic on Canvas

Barbara Campbell received a BFA from Pennsylvania State University and an MFA from the University of California, Berkeley. In 2003, she began teaching in the Department of Art at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Campbell painted Tree post-graduate school, during her heightened interest in exploring the co-mingling of languages of representation and abstraction. The materiality of the painting reinforces her belief in the endless potential of paint, and its guiding force in creating a work of art. Tree represents an important work to Campbell personally, and she describes it as, “a gift . . . a rare instance when what I’ve learned as a painter comes into a kind of distilled clarity.” Campbell has shown her work both nationally and internationally. In addition to her exhibitions, her educational and professional accomplishments include grants and awards, artist residencies, publications, lectures and academic presentations.
