Late Winter on the Loy Farm, 2001

Oil on Museum Board

Anne Wilkinson began her academic studies at Duke University, where she graduated magna cum laude earning an AB in Botany. Three years later, she returned to school at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where she received an MFA in Studio Art. Wilkinson taught as a visiting artist at the elementary school and university level. Wilkinson painted Late Winter on the Loy Farm after a brief encounter with the farm’s long-time resident, Leola Loy. The painting focuses on the large Queen Anne style farmhouse, however, after conversing with Loy, Wilkinson learned that the smaller building to the right was the original house and Loy’s birthplace. Wilkinson uses broad brush strokes, light and shadow to depict a crisp, serene winter day on the Loy farm. Wilkinson participated in both solo and group exhibitions in North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia, and Indiana. Her work was shown in the Weatherspoon Art Museum’s Art on Paper show in 1991 and 1995
