Elizabeth Leal, a Mexican born visual artist and educator, serves as a faculty member in the Department of Art at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). She earned her doctorate in Interdisciplinary Fine Arts with emphasis in Art Education at Texas Tech University, providing her with a broad background in art history, art criticism and aesthetics.
Matter to Spirit #6, is part of an ongoing series of work focusing on issues of migration, displacement, and self-identity through remembrance and practice of family crafts traditions and cultural background. Through painting, sculpting and exploring other materials, she creates work that inspires a transformative power of art while linking matter and spirit.
Exhibited widely, Leal’s work has made its way around both the United States and Mexico.
