Under Attack, 2006
Brian Shaw received his BFA from the Myers School of Art at the University of Akron, Ohio and his MFA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG).
Under Attack, is representative of Shaw’s mechanically influenced and foreboding artwork. His use of mixed media adds layers of complexity that feed into his subject matter. Shaw’s inclusion of detailed line drawings, bold cutouts and fat painterly brushstrokes create contrast and movement.
Shaw was selected as an outstanding 2006 MFA candidate in the UNCG Department of Art, where he received a prestigious residency at the Vermont Studio Center. He was also awarded a nationally competitive Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant, which included the exhibition of his artwork at the Cue Foundation in New York City.
