- The Weaver Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Ralph K. Shelton to its Board of Directors. Mr. Shelton is the first non-family member to serve on the Foundation's board.
Shelton is a longtime community and business leader. He is the founder and president of Southeast Fuels – a marketer of coal and oil to major accounts throughout the Southeast. Click here to read the complete press release.
- Elizabeth Green was also elected to the Board for a term ending in December 2012. She is the Foundation’s second non-family director. Elizabeth is President of the Central North Carolina Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, having served in that position since 1993. She has deep experience as a non-profit administrator and executive locally and nationally through National Multiple Sclerosis Society task forces and activities. She has been active in the Greensboro Junior League; is a member of the Crescent Rotary Club, the Association of Fundraising Professionals, and the Guilford Nonprofit Consortium. She is a Board Member of Community Health Charities. Beyond these activities, both she and her husband Kevin have been involved in a variety of community projects and activities.
- The North Carolina Network of Grantmakers(NCNG) Education Funders Group has released its report; NCNG Education Report for Funders. The report offers a set of recommendations for the State to focus in order to improve North Carolina's state of education in the K through 12 public school system. NCNG is currently providing overview sessions about the report around the State. Foundations and other stakeholders can use the report as a starting point for coming together and collaboratively working on common education issues.
- Tapestry has held two major events this year and is also hosting folks at MUSEP(Sunday Music in the Park). The first, a reception at the International Civil Rights Center and Museum, held jointly with the Latino Professional Forum attracted over 100 people. Our second was a Small Dinner/Large Dessert where folks gathered in small groups at the homes of volunteer hosts then we all met at Triad Stage's Upstage Cabaret for dessert. This summer Tapestry sponsored Sunday Music in the Park(MUSEP) and offered a chance for Tapestry members to attend and network with other Tapestry members and spread the word about Tapestry. - The Southern Conference has announced their 2009 Distinguished Service Awards. Weaver Foundation Co-Founder Mike Weaver has been named one of the 12 recipients for his involvement with the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. The Distinguished Service Awards recognizes an individuals accomplishments to all aspects of the University. Read the announcement here.
