The Foundation welcomes Maria Gonzalez and James “Smitty” Smith to its Board of Directors, effective January, 1, 2017.
Maria, a native of Colombia, is currently the Executive Director of The Clubs of Greensboro, aka Pyramids. Gonzalez is a 2015 graduate of Leadership Greensboro and served as its Program Chair in 2016. She also serves on the Board of Directors of Faith Action International House, an immigrant and refugee support organization. Gonzalez is married with one son in the Guilford County School System.
James “Smitty” Smith is a native of Goldsboro, NC and grew up in Brooklyn, NY. A Vietnam Veteran, Smitty began a career with McDonalds in 1971 and now owns and operates 16 McDonalds throughout the Piedmont through a family business, Dejas Management. Smitty has a long history of community service in Greensboro and is currently serving as the Board Chair or Chief Volunteer Officer of the YMCA Metro Board of Directors. Smitty is married to Debra Smith and they have two grown children and three grandchildren.
