Pastel on Paper

Chi-Kit Kwong, a native of Hong Kong, studied painting at the Columbus College of Art and Design. He received an MFA in Painting from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2005. Kwong served as a lecturer at Shantou University in Guangdong, China and at the CIVA School of Design in Hong Kong. John Maggio, Robert Gerhart and Michael Ananian were influential to his work and are included in the Weaver Foundation Collection, along with fellow artists Brian Shaw, Jessica Sims, Nathaniel Underwood, Robert Igoe and Patrick Leger. Kwong’s reaction to his conservative environment resulted in his drawing, We Are Gonna Have A Mighty Good Time. His use of soft pastel as a medium helped establish a dramatic sense of light and shadow, while easing the application of color through direct mixing and layering on the paper.
